A Bradbourne House Wedding In Kent, On A Rainy Summer Day.
When Barnaby and Roisin chose Bradbourne House in Kent for their wedding day in the middle of summer, they dreamed of an elegant celebration in the sun, surrounded by the venue's historic charm and picturesque grounds.
As the date of their June wedding approached, Mother Nature had other plans. The forecast promised rain, and the couple’s special day turned out to be one of the wettest days of the year. However, despite the weather, their wedding at Bradbourne House was nothing short of magical—proof that the perfect day is about so much more than sunshine.
The Beauty of Bradbourne House, Rain or Shine.
Bradbourne House is a Tudor Grade 1 listed building, with it’s stunning teal and gold features and beautifully maintained interiors, is one of those rare venues that’s just as beautiful indoors as it is outside.
Nestled in the heart of Kent, the estate boasts a sweeping driveway, elegant reception rooms, and an atmosphere of timeless grace. Even on a rainy day, the house itself provided the perfect setting for the day Barnaby and Roisin had always envisioned.
As their photographer, I knew that rain wouldn’t stop their wedding from being extraordinary. The ornate chandeliers, rich period features and stunning interiors created the perfect backdrop for their indoor ceremony and reception. The Great Hall, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, allowed guests to still enjoy the view of the gardens while being safely tucked inside.
A Ceremony & Confetti In The Great Hall.
The Bride and Groom chose the elegant Great Hall for their ceremony. A picturesque duck-egg blue room, filled with character and light, large enough to hold up to 100 seated guests. Although the confetti was originally planned for after the ceremony on the Great Hall Steps, it was thrown indoors, before a break in the rain meant we could head outdoors after their ceremony.
Group Photos On The Grand Hall Steps.
While the rain fell outside, the Bradbourne Hous team and I kept a watchful eye on the skies, waiting for those brief moments when the clouds would part, and a break in the rain would allow us to head outdoors.
When the window of opportunity came, we didn’t hesitate. The guests headed out to the gardens and enjoyed champagne, canapes and lawn games, overlooking the lake. The Great Hall Steps provided the perfect backdrop for some formal group portraits.
A Magical Sunset In The Grounds
Rain can often create the most atmospheric and romantic photos. When the rain subsided, I made sure to take full advantage of the opportunity, guiding the newlyweds through the beautiful gardens to capture some final portraits before the light faded. As the evening approached, the clouds parted to allow for a stunning golden hour.
As often happens on rainy days, the sunset after the storm was extraordinary. The clouds revealed a breathtaking golden sky, casting a soft, warm glow across the estate’s grounds. It was one of those rare, perfect moments, and Barnaby and Roisin were right there in the heart of it.
A Reception and Speeches in the Great Hall.
The team at Bradbourne House quickly turned the Great Hall around for the wedding breakfast and with the help of Bradbourne House’s excellent toastmaster, Barnaby and Roisin were warmly welcomed in as husband and wife with a round of enthusiastic applause.

A Perfect Day Despite the Weather
Barnaby and Roisin’s wedding was a reminder that no matter the weather, a wedding is about so much more than the conditions outside. The love between the couple, their connection with their families, and the celebration of their commitment to each other was what truly made their day unforgettable. Bradbourne House provided the perfect setting, and despite the rain, the day felt full of light, laughter, and warmth.
Their wedding was a true testament to the fact that a rainy day doesn’t have to be a setback—it can be a blessing in disguise. The stunning interiors of the house, the unique beauty of the outdoor grounds, and those unforgettable golden hour moments combined to create a wedding day that was nothing short of magical. Rain or shine, it was the perfect day for Barnaby and Roisin.
What Roisin & Barnaby said…
“Jen was so lovely, accommodating and made us feel comfortable from the offset. We had many zoom calls and emails to agree on exactly what we wanted from the day and she delivered it all perfectly! Jen was happy and smiley the whole day, made our family and friends feel at ease and was so encouraging of us getting our photos as a couple. We couldn't have asked for a better experience! We received our photos a month after our wedding and they were all so beautiful. We're so grateful for all the hard work Jen put in to making our day feel special. Thank you so much!”
